Madeira Flower Festival

Madeira Flower Festival

One of Madeira´s yearly attractions is the Festa da Flor da Madeira, the Madeira Flower Festival, held in the month of May. This year, it is from the 1st till the 25th of May. Click here for the information given by the official Web Site Visit Madeira, and you can find some more information here.

One of the highlights of the festival is the Flower Parade which takes place in downtown Funchal along the Avenida do Mar on May 4th in the afternoon. Our friend Maurice, who runs the English news blog Madeira Island Direct, has published a very interesting ‘behind the scenes’ article about the preparations for the parade. A very good story which you can find here: https://www.madeiraislanddirect.com/blog/2025/04/the-madeiran-flower-parade-designing-a-fantasy/. It gives an insight in the time and energy the groups put into their project.

Often, the same groups performing in the Carnival Parade, also perform in the parade of the Flower Festival. We can but admire the amount of time and energy these people put into the preparations of both parades, and you won’t be disappointed by either of them.

Should you miss the parade, you will find flower-related activities and decorations in downtown Funchal that are still worth a visit. Don’t miss the flower carpets along the Avenida Arriaga.

  1. Thanks Peter was there to see it last year just miss it this year finished when we arrive.

    1. A pleasure, Maurice. We aren’t there either, just arrived back in the Netherlands. I must say, nice weather here, as opposed to yet another wintry spell in Madeira. Too cold and far too wet. But Trump says there is no climate change :-/
